About the Event
Learn the skills and shortcuts necessary to make it in the very exciting and fast paced world of Action Storyboarding! David Chlystek, The StoryWhisperer has worked for all of the major companies producing action shows, including his Emmy and Annie nominated stint as director on Static Shock! for WB, as well as a long time Storyboard Artist for Marvel Studios, and is currently the Senior Storyboard Artist for Insomniac Games.
Here is a brief synopsis of what each class will offer......
Week 1: A discussion, and visual breakdown of the differences between the various types of action shows, and how they differ visually.Breaking down Composition for Action/Blocking and Staging using video essays and discussionLaunching and discussion of class assignment, which will be a script from an actual production from either Marvel or Warners (DC) along withsending links to all materials (Designs/BGs/Props) for the episode.
Week 2: A visual demonstration and discussion about the shortcuts/tips that are used by industry professionals using Storyboard Pro 7 with a step by step videotutorial from Korra demonstrating how to achieve the look of a studio animatic.An indepth discussion about cinematography and comparisons of how composition and dramatic use of camera angles is used comparing Daniel Craig'sJames Bond in comparison to Roger Moore's James Bond.A video essay and discussion regarding the use of Camera Movement for action storyboarding.A Q and A session about the class assignment.
Week 3: Class Critiques of Roughs for Class Assignment(Time Permitting) Video Essay, and discussion about the use of Editing for Action and how, when and why to use a cut.
Week 4: Shortcuts and pro tips video tutorial on SketchupA visual breakdown of how a sequence of action was achieved in an action comedy show (Glich Techs)Visual essays on Shortcuts and tips using Storyboard Pro (Creating stamps, autofill, creating animated layers, batch resizing, etc.)Additional time for any questions or concerns regarding the class assignment.
Week 5: A visual breakdown of the show, "Last Man", and how layout is important in TV animation.A discussion about how storyboards are presented and used in the Gaming industry ("Beat" boards compared to full on animatics)How Pre-visualization is used in Gaming. (What is "Pre-Vis?")How to craft and create great characters in storyboards (Examples from Indiana Jones, Star Wars)
Week 6: Discussion of Anime Animators, their techniques, and how you can apply them to your storyboard work.
Week 7: Class pitch of final assignment begins
Week 8: Class pitch of final assignment. Q&A session with David.
Through Class critique of class assignments, David will also get you past any "Sticking Points" in your work! This 6 week, emmersive, Online class will enable students from around the world become the best Action Storyboard people they can be! Classses are recorded, with a two week window to view. So never miss a class!!
Class size is limited, so students can get individual instruction and critique.
Using Storyboard Pro is preferred, but not necessary for class.
